There is one thing bannerlord and mount and blade in general doesn't simulate well. Sleep. A small group of men have less manpower available to do things like eat/sleep/stand guard. A much larger force of say over 100 men will be able to take shifts and send out patrols to find them. And that larger force can also move it's fastest elements faster.
I've been fighting with my 80 stack + my companion's 50 stack and just realized i dont know if the troops in my companions party are leveling up or not. Because if they are what determines which path they choose? I know if they're not getting experience it's unintentional because armies in your army controlled by other lords definitely level up

It's for better Auto resolve results only and there is no proper way to level it. Auto resolving doesn't level it faster, which is insane. Scouting perks don't work, the scouting bonuses don't make you move on the map faster. Cunning is garbage sadly. Companions are stats are always wrong. Doctors with 1 int for example. They are pretty terrible tbh. Spawn as a level two clan with 3 members, which they can sometimes spawn with no gear or skills. Not to mention you will need to level a companion somewhat in skills that will help them lead a party or they will be dead weight. I guess if you are really desperate for clans.
In your party it doesn't do anything. Leading their own party it may effect slightly something they get regarding loot, they have some means that raises trade skill but I don't actually know how it works, it's something the player doesn't have as for the player only things you buy and sell for a profit gain trade, but AI parties do "something", probably just a cheat on their loot tbh.
